Help Me Decide On The Dresser Color

Hi everyone!

Quick post from me today since birthday preparation is in full effect around here!  :)  The Babe is turning one this weekend, and I fully intend to spend my day spoiling her instead of browsing Pinterest, Facebook, or Twitter... *
*Except during nap time... I fully intend to use this time to feed my internet addiction  ;)

If you're a regular reader, then you know I'm blogging progress in The Babe's room makeover real time.  You'll get to see exactly how long it takes me to finish her room, and if I hit snags along the way, you'll be the first to know.

I'm happy to report that as of today things are going incredibly well.  The big task I completed was cutting out all the fabric panels for her curtains.  Next week, The Babe and I are headed out of town to get a little sewing / babysitting help from Granny.  I won't be able to blog that progress in real time, though, because Granny doesn't have the internet.  Ummmm....yea.  I'm not joking.  So unless things are going really well and I can drag the gang to "town" 20 minutes away, there won't be any progress updates while I'm away.

Once I get the curtains done, the next big project is the dresser makeover.  AND THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN.  Take a minute here to peruse the curtain fabric, the wall color and a few of my favorite colors.  Now, start imagining what color / finish you would give to the antique sideboard I'm going to be using as The Babe's dresser / changing table.

Okay, now that we have the colors in mind, here are a few dresser inspiration pictures I have saved to my pinterest boards.

Do you like any of the inspiration pictures above?  Would you go an entirely different route, hello coral-y pink and aqua) like another commenter posted yesterday?

I keep flip flopping between something "traditional" (white, light gray) or something a bit more funky (dark gray, turquoise, coral-y, etc).  BUT right now, I'm leaning towards a dark gray base coat with a top glaze / light brush strokes of turquoise.

Now, what say you?!  I'm going to use your comments to help make my decision.  Please leave me a comment below or on my Facebook page so I can see what you recommend.

Have a fabulous weekend!!

  1. I'm hardcore leaning towards the funky yellowish green color. It would be AMAZING! Dark gray is my second choice.

    Happy Birthday to the Babe!

  3. I think you should pick up the coral in the fabric. A bright pop of girly color will temper the bolder greys and blues.

  4. I really, really like the dark gray. I'm totally loving grays right now. However, I think the bright coral/reddish color in the fabric would give a really cool "pop" of color in her room, especially against the wall color.

I'll just live through you because Lee is so "traditional" (read: stick in the mud) that I could never get away with painting a piece of furniture - much less coral!

  5. I like the bright coral color (not the light pink - wouldn't be bright enough against the gray?). I think the yellow would also be awesome as long as it was bright enough to pop out against the gray wall. Go bold, Mary!!

  6. I am in the minority, but I love the turquiose over grey idea. You can bring the girl-y and brighter colors in through accessories. I think that painting the dresser a really bright color would make it take over the room, and I would want the focus to be on that gorgeous fabric instead. Just my $.02 :). Good luck!

  9. I stand by my previous recommendation :) Coral + aqua...but coral over gray could be amazing too. I think the room needs a bunch of girly-ness. Or maybe it's because I have a baby boy and am always coveting pink things. I love the wall color you've picked btw!

  10. I like to keep my big pcs. nuetral and add the pop in the accessories and fun antiques I find along the way. I like to move things around from room to room...just because I buy something for a shelf in my library doesn't mean it will be there next month, or the next I vote a sour cream shade.

  11. Teal. Then you can incorporate all the other colors on top of the dresser. Pink light shades, baskets, pink glass knobs on the dresser? Pink piggy bank. Lot's of ways to bring pops of pink into the room. Should the hanging light both be the pink/coral color? :)
